Our teachers are carefully selected for their ability to teach and relate well to both younger and older people alike. Their sensitivity and discretion in working with each student is readily seen. All of our teachers have a Bachelors and/or a Masters degree in their chosen field of education and some hold a California State Teaching Credential. Additionally, our teachers are TB tested. They take care to bring each student personal success.
About Mary & Ken Bartelt
Pastor Ken and Mary opened the Bartelt Education center in 2002, located in the Raley’s Shopping Center. They were the first tutoring center to come to Yuba City. They strive for excellence in order to give each student their own personal success. The Bartelts have a strong background in Christian Education from the Lutheran Church school system. Ken was principal and a teacher and Mary was teaching and serving as Pastor’s personal assistant.
They participated in the Title One “No Child Left Behind” program for many years serving the Marysville, Yuba, City, Live Oak, and Gridley school districts. They have served the Children’s Hope Family Services as a charitable outreach for many years.
Mary was raised in the Napa Valley, where she met Ken who was the Principal of the Lutheran School. Ken is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was raised in Santa Ana, California. They have three children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Their ministry in the Lutheran Church has taken them from Napa, to Southern California, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Texas, Iowa, and Australia.
They enjoy: traveling the United States, visiting friends, sports, cooking, reading, gardening, garden railroading, and, best of all, teaching.
They plan to continue serving this community with the great team of teachers they employ for many years to come.

I am a River Valley graduate and graduated from Yuba College with a degree in Early Childhood Education and another in Sociology. I am currently a student at California State University-Sacramento and I am majoring in Sociology. My plans for the future are to attend UC Davis School of Law. I have been working with children in different settings and institutions since 2008. I find this work very rewarding, and I plan on continuing to help people with the work that I do. Brent came to Bartelt Education Center from Panama City, Florida, where he was born and raised. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Florida State University. In his studies he focused primarily on conservation biology, and marine ecology. Brent has a wife and a 10-year old son, both of which he is very proud.
In his free time Brent is an amateur beekeeper, woodworker, and computer tech. He is passionate about science and math of all kinds, as well as sharing what he knows with others. His mentor is his late great-grandfather, who was a WWII veteran, an Army Reserve commander, a Junior High Science teacher, who taught him to never stop learning. Brent strives to become a modern renaissance man, a jack-of-all-trades, and tenaciously pursues new subjects and interests to that end.
Brent joined us in August 2017 and welcomes the challenges brought to him by the students of Bartelt Education Center.
